This recipe requires a bread machine. My students enjoyed measuring and putting ingredients in the bread machine in the morning and then being able to smell the wonderful scent of baking bread in the afternoon. This recipe is a bit involved and something I do with students only once a year. It is something we do yearly though because is such wonderful-tasting bread! You may, if possible, want to make an extra loaf for the adults because they will wander in your classroom and ask for a slice! Cooking in the classroom is not only fun and memorable but is also a great way to teach measurement skills and the how and why of following directions. In the classroom, I use recipes as a springboard for discussions to enhance language skills and further vocabulary development in relationship to functional/cooking skills.
