Description:
I had a student's parents tell me that when he got home, they would ask "How was school?" and he would say, "Good." Then they would ask, "What did you do?" and he would say, "Work." and that was all he would tell them. So I came up with this Tell me about your day! schedule. At the end of the day he and I spend about 5 minutes going through his day. He chooses icons from his schedule (special area, writing, reading, math, special activity, recess, etc.) and puts them in order. I give him ideas about what to tell his parents about (i.e. did you sing songs in music? Who did you play with at recess?), and when he gets home they sit down with him and go through his day. He has visuals as prompts to tell them, and he enjoys his check-out in the afternoon with me! If he lost privileges during the day, I put it at the bottom with an "x" in the box next to it so his parents know to ask why he didn't get recess, etc.
