This activity was made by Lynda Crouch, M.O.T., OTR/L, ATP with the Oklahoma Assistive Technology Center, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, in Cooperation with the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services. Provide several pre-made ocean friends and help the students to measure them using non-standard measurement or to the nearest inch. Have them record their answers on a response sheet that was made within Boardmaker program. As a follow-up activity, provide them with a large sheet of white paper and have them draw their own ocean friends. Then have them measure their ocean friends and record their answer on the paper. The ocean animals, numbers, and ruler can be laminated and velcro attached to allow students who are non-writers to participate.
