Description:

Goes with OAAP Portfolio Science Standard P5.1/C5.1 (Measure a property of a common material by selecting the appropriate tool from three choices; Measure the physical property of temperature in at least four objects). The students will choose which tool they would use to measure the length of a pencil, the weight of themselves, and the temperature of a glass of water. Then they will actually measure these items. They will use the thermometer to measure the temperature of a cup of water that has been in the freezer for an hour, a cup of water that has been in the refrigerator for an hour, a cup of water at room temperature, and a cup of water that has been in the microwave for one minute.
