Description:
Some HFA students who are in Algebra learn the order of operations one way, then find out there are exceptions to the order of operations rules. Our student wanted to argue with the teacher because he had learned it a certain way, and did not believe the teacher when an exception came about. This goes with the oops!exception icon that I am posting also. Mount the oops/exception icons to a dowel rod or tongue depressor and Voila! you have a visual cue for the math teacher to use when she is teaching a math operation that has an exception.
